What a fantastic story. The characters are well drawn and very complex. The hero is by turn likeable and so messed up that I almost want to hate him. I rode that roller coaster right along with the heroine. Their relationship was definitely rocky and there was one point where I wasn't sure they would reconcile.

The story unfolds with beautiful symmetry, revealing each character's history with well-paced precision, at a tempo which--while not fast--nevertheless kept me turning pages. To the point that I was reading it exclusively, when I usually have one book going on each of my two devices.

The Cloud Seeker deals with some messed up experiences and people who are damaged by them. I don't want to give much away, but the author fearlessly deals with the aftereffects of one character surviving one of the most notorious events in recent history, and she does it with aplomb. The truth, when it comes out, has been built up so well that I thought "Of course that's what it was!" but I hadn't quite put it together myself.

The only quibble--and it is a very minor quibble--is that the characters from the US occasionally have speech mannerisms that are, in my opinion, not very American. But I was only aware of this on the periphery. It slipped me to the edge of 'the bubble' every so often, but not really enough to pop it for me. I could almost believe it was east coast vs my west coast colloquialisms.

The Cloud Seeker eBook Jayne Lockwood Reviews

The Cloud Seeker is a tale set in a small English village. The setting and the characters are extremely well drawn. I found myself longing for summer reading some of the descriptive passages!
Having also read Jayne Lockwood's Closer than Blood I can safely say that she is not afraid to tell things as they are, and neither are her characters. Favouring to some extent the unconventional, Jayne Lockwood paints as honest picture of people with their flaws unhidden but forgiven where appropriate. The Cloud Seeker's cast are easy to believe in, indeed I found myself recognising some of the characteristics of many of the characters from real life.
This is a really enjoyable read - lovely for UK readers who can recognise their own environment and society, but also a brilliant insight to non-UK readers, into the realities of life in the beautiful British countryside.
If you want schmaltzy, twee romance then this is not the book for you. It's real, it's gritty, it's beautifully written. The characters are believable, especially Cat and the story is elegantly woven through them. One of the best reads in a long time.
A very good read, well written with both a believable plot and fascinating characters. A story not just of romance but of so much more. The author's knowledge of clouds was encyclopaedic and woven skilfully into the fabric of the story. In addition there was a vivid portrayal of life and education in rural Buckinghamshire as well as life in New England, which must have been based on real experience. Highly recommended.
a fabulously written page turner. Lush character. s, real, with voices so clear you can picture them in your head as they speak... This was believable, a story that was intense and beguiling because you get fed little tidbits but it doesnt prepare you so you gue until ss the outcome, but the clues are there, you just don't twig until the unveiling. I cried at one point and I wasnt surprised. this authoress is skilled with her plots narrative and the people that dot the book. I went to work one day with about 7/8's of the book read and I thought about the characters most of the day...a sign of a book that has gripped me ...-) I couldn't wait to get back to finish it. Didnt want it to end. Highly recommended.
It took quite awhile to engage, generally longer than I will give, but I didn't have to start over several times and once engaged, the book did become a page turner in the sense that I wanted to figure out the purpose, the actual story. I'm still not sure what the story is about.
Enjoyed the story! In reality, everyone has a past and some are more flawed or broken than others. This book shows the depth and issues of characters but manages to still make the reader care about them, and hope that they will find happiness.
