This a great prequel to the first book Shameless King’s and I definitely want to know all of their stories. The King’s are a ice hockey team for Rittenhouse Prep. and they have been undefeated as a team for four years and have another championship under their belt. We are introduced to all the kings, Declan, Emmett, Colm, Ford and Heath. These five are the stars of the team and are headed to the NHL after college. This prequel starts at the end of their senior year from prom to the last party of the year before the guys go their separate ways to college.
Declan is a hockey player for Rittenhouse Prep. and one of the five kings star player’s. Declan is at the school on scholarship. He’s cocky, but he is out to prove to his father that he didn’t need him to succeed. Mak or Makenna appears to have the privileged life and is a book worm and according to Declan she sucks all the fun out of the room. He calls her the Ice Queen. Makenna is driven to make up for the life that her brother never had and that means she has to study and succeed for him. The two have not liked each other since Declan showed up late for a study project during freshmen year. I received a copy of this book and am volunteering to leave a review.

Well-written, this prequel introduced five star high school hockey players at the end of their senior year before college and Iife sent them off on different paths. By focusing on just a few days and events in the final days of their senior year, it gave an initial taste of the trajectory each would take and introduced the young women who would be caught up in their lives. The five guys come from differing backgrounds, some with parent issues, some with money issues, with their love of ice hockey cementing their friendship. Mak, a hard-driving perfectionist trying to compensate for the tragic death of her brother and the hopes that were buried with him, is a female thorn in star scorer Declan's side, and the brief mentions of some time spent together at the prom hints that their antagonism hides a deep-seated attraction neither can admit.

I enjoyed this short prequel which whet my appetite for more.-)
This was a quick novella introducing readers to the Kings of Rittenhouse series. We get to meet the Kings - Declan, Heath, Emmett, Ford, and Colm as well as several other key players and siblings. The novella gives readers some back story on their lives (though the novella focuses on and is told only from Declan and Makenna's POV's) and sets the stage for future books. It looks like some of the tropes we'll see in this series are enemies to lovers, forbidden/teacher and student, second chance, and best friend's little sister. Honestly, after reading this novella, it's Avery and Emmett that intrigued me (and broke my heart) the most. It's clear there is a lot more than meets the eye to their story. I'm looking forward to meeting these Kings (and Queens).
I've been given a copy of the book from the author. I like college romances mainly because the characters' age is near my own, so I in some ways I can relate more to them.

This prequel story is the perfect way to introduce us to the characters and their background stories. We meet all the hockey players and find out a little for their lives and the connection they have with the main characters. The book is referring to their last days as seniors in high school, unlike the next book that is mainly focused in their college years.

Declan is the leading scorer of the school's hockey team, a real King in the ice. Makenna is the first of the class and a little uptight. They refer to her as the "Ice Queen" and most people don't dare to challenge her. She hates Declan because of a failed project they had together. Declan loves to press all her buttons and make her angry. Although Makenna's life in not as perfect as everyone thinks, she manages to be the first in everything she does.

What I kept from this book is that not everything is as it seems. We never know what happens behind closed doors and what someone is going through.

This novella ends with a bang and leave you wanting to find out more!
